Our History

Welcome to our Family!

about1In 1919, Pasquale Iavarone walked thru Ellis Island, and brought his passion for food and hard work ethic to Brooklyn by opening the first "Salciceria" introducing the finest in old world delicacies. His tempting sausages, coppa and prosciutto gained recognition throughout the city. Iavarone mastered his unique art of sausage making until he was nationally renowned. During the holidays, the demand was so great for Pasquale Iavarone's Italian Sausage that police barricades had to be set up outside the store to control the crowds.

By 1951, Pasquale's sons, Joe and Jerry, took over the reigns and helped perfect the art that their father had taught them As they expanded with locations in Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island they continued to seek out new ideas to entice the appetite. They met with Frank Perdue, and a new healthy twist, "chicken sausage" was introduced.

about2In the early seventies, a new generation of "Iavarone Brothers", Pat and John, opened new stores and continued with the legacy, bringing a rather new concept of "prepared foods" and hot catering to food connoisseurs on the run. They also started distributing their own fresh pasta known as "Iavarone Bros. Villa di Pasta". This brand became the exclusive line of fresh pasta products sold in all Iavarone Bros. stores. Several years later, their brother Joseph Jr. came into the family business.

And in decades to follow, they opened their additional stores, including New Hyde Park, NY, receiving acclaim and rave reviews by the toughest critics for their delectable food. In early 2001, the Iavarone Brothers expanded this location to a full service upscale gourmet market, including a full selection of aromatic fresh baked breads, their own old world style exquisite cakes and pastries and a full fancy produce department. Only the most inspired food mavens have been selected to manage each department.

At the Lake Success Center in New Hyde Park the Iavarones opened a cafe adjacent to the retail store. Iavarone Cafe has rated great reviews by such reputable sources as ZAGATS, Newsday and Great Restaurants of Long Island.

In November 2004, their largest store opened in Wantagh's Cherrywood Shopping Center, featuring a full Seafood department, a full Butcher, Bakery, Cheese, Prepared Food and Produce department.

The Iavarones began traveling the world to bring their discerning customers exciting, high quality items to import under their own label. With their fine food assortment, just walking through their door raises your culinary IQ. Their love for delicious food motivates them to constantly search for new and valued items to present their customers. For the past eighty-years, the name "Iavarone" has become synonymous with quality, value and impeccable taste in food.

Christopher, Jonathan, Michele and Joseph Jr. Iavarone are the fourth generation to enter the family business and carry on eighty years of tradition. They are committed to exceptional service and a passion for creating an inspirational marketplace.

What Iavarone Bros. does best is to offer a quality gourmet food selection paired with a professional and knowledgeable staff. They offer their customers the highest quality and an enticing culinary journey.
